ACC Montreal Section Camp - Mountaineering School in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru

Friday, Apr 4, 2014 — Posted by cacmtl

The ACC Montreal is organizing a camp in Cordillera Blanca, Peru. This location is one of the best mountaineering destinations in South America. It's a compact chain of mountains packed with big peaks and dramatic glaciated faces and with routes varying from easy to extremely difficult.

You can join this camp (Part I) for an introduction to high altitude mountaineering, travel on glaciers, crevasses etc, plus the opportunity of climbing two glaciated mountains around 5,500 meters. This alone is an excellent achievement for somebody with no previous high altitude experience.

If the acclimatization is good and the level of confidence is high, a mountain above 6,000 meters can also be climbed (Part I).

The camp is organized in Ishinca Valley at 4,350 meters elevation for a duration of 14 days including travel time (Montreal to Montreal).

There is a second part of this adventure when the highest mountain in Peru will be attempted. Huascaran, at 6,768 meters is not part of the school but experienced members wishing to continue their journey, can venture (Part II).

The estimated cost (including the airfare), per member, for the Mountaineering School (Part I) is $2,450. This may vary depending on airfare costs, final group size, etc.

ACC Montreal will subsidize $100 of the trip per ACC Montreal member, up to a maximum of 12 members. Terms apply. Please contact or join us during the information nights for more details.

Happy Yak is a generous supporter both financially, with their delicious products, and with their time for the development of a nutrition plan for the ascent of Huascaran.

Protogear: Great company that is supporting us with their excellent gear, made in Québec by ACC members; all that at a great price. Thanks to Protogear!

La Cordée: Thanks to their passion for outdoor activities our members who are going to Peru have access to technical equipment and can work on their experience in the high mountains.
Tel-Loc: Specialists in the provision of cellular services, satellite and mobile radios for events of all sizes. Thanks to Tel-Loc, we can communicate by satellite phone with our local logistical support, but also with Montreal so that our family and friends are aware of the expedition's progress.
